Pentax K-r Digital SLR Camera with SMCP-DA 35mm f/2.4 AL Lens, Black Overview

The Pentax K-r Digital SLR Camera with SMCP-DA 35mm f/2.4 AL Lens is that lightweight, mid-range 12.4MP digital SLR camera that also shoots dazzling 720p HD video that you've been looking for. It's got a few other things going for it, too--like a high resolution 3" LCD display with 930,000 dots, up to 6 frames per second shooting speed, super-accurate 11-point autofocus system, sensitivity up to 25,600 ISO so you never miss a photo due to low light, shutter speeds up to 1/6000 second to freeze the action and dual power options, either rechargeable Li-ion or easy-to-find AA batteries. .That's not all: the K-r has an efficient dust removal mechanism that automatically shakes dust off the CMOS sensor, a custom image function for applying one of nine creative modes (such as Bleach Bypass, a dramatic effect used in movies) to any image you want, a digital filter function with a choice of 18 filters that can process images without a computer (including Starburst, Sketch, High Contrast, Fisheye, Toy Camera, Posterization, Retro, etc.), an upgraded HDR (High Dynamic Range) function to create a superb image in difficult lighting situations (by combining 3 different exposures of the same scene) even without a tripod and 3 different cross proces sing options to create dra matically different colors. It even has a high-speed infrared data transmission system-the first in a Pentax camera.

Black Rock City 2007 Panoramic Video Loops

In the past several years, I had gotten into shooting panoramic images with my 35mm film camera and then with my digital camera. But rather than use stitching software to make the resulting images seamless, I enjoy the aesthetic of the imperfectly matched edges. In 2007 I decided to do some experiments with my little digital camera. (My cheap digital still camera has the ability to record silent video in a proprietary 640x480, 15 fps format. I like the grainy video and slower framerate.) I shot ten second video clips in a panoramic manner, intending to try to come back and composite them together into some very large, high-resolution images. I knew in advance that I would not be using a tripod and would allow for pleasing imperfections. Also, I didn't time the shots exactly... I just tried to count off ten seconds silently, resulting in loops of slightly different lengths. Another thing I like is my camera's brightness/contrast adjustment that it makes whenever it begins recording -- it takes about a second for it to adjust from a dark image to a balanced image. In a composite with dozens of images at slightly different lengths, it sometimes ends up having a very cool effect. Some of the resulting composited images are well over 5000 pixels wide, (though they tend not to be more than three "screens" or about 1900 pixels tall). There's no way I know of to project video images this large (yet!). I do have renders at 1280x1024 which I could make available for download later ...

Nikon Em 35mm SLR Film Camera

Nikon Em 35mm SLR Film Camera Review

Nikon Em 35mm SLR Film Camera Feature

  • It is supported by E-system.

Nikon Em 35mm SLR Film Camera Overview

The Nikon EM formed the base of the new line. It was the smallest and cheapest SLR ever made by Nippon Kogaku. It was a battery-powered (two S76 or A76, or one 1/3N) electromechanically controlled manual focus SLR. The EM featured a lightweight and compact hybrid copper aluminum alloy body and fiberglass reinforced polycarbonate plastic top and bottom covers, plus aperture priority semiautomatic exposure control governed by a built-in 60/40 percent centerweighted, silicon photodiode light meter. A left side viewfinder galvanometer needle pointer indicated the exposure on a shutter speed scale. The viewfinder also had Nikon's standard 3 mm split image rangefinder and 1 mm microprism collar focusing aids, but the focus screen was fixed. The viewfinder is dimmer than those in the semi-professional Nikons since the expensive prisms of the latter were not used. The camera is also fitted with a low-light exposure warning in the form of an audible 'beep'.Accessories for the EM included a highly automated dedicated electronic flash unit, the Nikon SB-E (guide number 56/17 (feet/meters) at ASA 100) and a very small power winder, the Nikon MD-E (motorized film advance at 2 frames per second). However, the star of the E-system were a new brand of lenses - the Nikon Series E lenses (discontinued circa 1987). The Series E lens line up in 1980 were a 28 mm f/2.8 wide angle, a 35 mm f2.5 semi-wide angle, a 50 mm f/1.8 normal, a 100 mm f/2.8 short telephoto and a 75-150 mm f/3.5 zoom. These lenses were intended to enhance the EM's appeal with new users, by being inexpensive but good quality alternatives to the pricey regular Nikkor branded lenses.
